New Year’s Challenge FAQ

Here are answers to the most common Challenge-related questions.

Do I need a subscription or free trial to participate in the Challenge?

Nope! We’re giving you free access to one course session a day during the three weeks of the Challenge, no trial or subscription necessary. You’ll have access to this content until the end of the Challenge, on January 27.

What do I have to do to get credit for meditating? Do I have to do the “featured session,” or can I do another meditation?

You can do any session in the app that you have access to. For users without a subscription or a free trial, you can do any session of “The Basics,” or use the Unguided Timer. For users with a subscription or free trial, anything in the app is fair game!

I see a red x for one of the days of the Challenge - but I meditated that day!

Sorry about this! Here’s how to retroactively get credit for meditations you have done:

First, make sure 10% Happier is sharing data with the Health app: Open the Health App --> Sources tab --> 10% Happier --> make sure both "READ" and "WRITE" toggles are enabled. 

Then log the minutes: Open the Heath app --> Health Data tab --> Mindfulness --> Mindful Minutes --> tap the "+" icon at the top right --> select the date and time you meditated (and be careful not to log a multi-day meditation; you need to change both dates for this to work properly).

I missed a day - is there any way to access the session I missed?

You can access past sessions by clicking on the below links. Please do note that you will get credit for today’s date, NOT the day the session was initially shared.

I loved one of the past sessions - how can I save it as a favorite?

You can save a meditation you have listened to by going to the Singles tab, scrolling to the bottom, then looking for the meditation in “Recently Played.” Once you tap on it, you can save it as a favorite. Once you’ve saved it as a favorite, you’ll have free access to it for the remainder of the Challenge - unless you subscribe, in which case you’ll have access to that meditation and the rest of the app.

I’m doing the Challenge on multiple devices, but they aren’t syncing!

Unfortunately, we don’t fully support cross-device sync in this year’s Challenge. Your best bet will be to do the Challenge on a single device. This is on our future roadmap!

How long do I have to meditate to get credit for that day?

All it takes is one minute! If you’re feeling ambitious, though, we have bonus levels for averaging more than 5 minutes of meditation per day, and for averaging more than 10 minutes of meditation per day.

Can I invite a friend to the Challenge?

Absolutely! Tap on the “Invite Friends” button on the Challenge screen, then send a message to any friends you’d like to invite to join you in the Challenge. Once your friend accepts your invite, you’ll be able to see each others’ progress and send each other nudges.

Can I remove a friend that I added to the Challenge?

Yes - you can. Scroll down the Challenge screen until you see the friend you want to remove, then swipe left on their name. This will remove them from your circle, as well as removing you from their circle. You’ll no longer be able to see each others’ progress or send each other nudges.

I meditated on my own instead of using the app - can I get Challenge credit for it?
